I know it already but the last para hits home. MAWS not MAGA. (Make America Weaker & Stupid). Why don’t the Yanks get it? They stumble from one bit of hubristic malformed idea to another and call this strategic policy. Beggars belief. Saddens me.

Vernon, as an American I can attest that we DON’T get it. After all, we ourselves elected Trump. Not once, but twice. Even after Trump leaves office, his supporters will still be here. That is the best reason for the world to trust America no longer.

Well Ray l can’t disagree but let’s try and be a bit hopeful; the fundamental shared values, history and common interests may assert themselves again at some point. As a student of history l am very aware ( and moved) by the contribution and sacrifices made by that American generation to these in WW2. Also US history has produced several political leaders, by any measure, are giants of there time and indeed anytime. So let’s see…..

You are right, of course. Led by a good leader, the short memory span of the 30% or so of the American electorate comprising MAGA may be a Godsend. And hopefully that turnaround will be forceful enough to convince the world that America can be trusted again.

I look forward to receiving these oh so lucid articles! I wish I could share them with my only two Russian friends, but they have swallowed the Kremlin line completely. My local press also has some (presumably human) trolls that leap to Russia's defence the moment any pro Ukrainian piece appears. The Russian propaganda machine is outperforming the Russian army.

I have the same dilemma. I often fail to resist passing on little gems, in my own words, and get reminded that the Russians are living on a different planet. Their version of "truth" is even more ridiculous than Donald Trump's.

“…US government’s infantile and incompetent foreign policy, the US national security is being damaged directly and substantially…” - Yup. Clearly.

Early on, I expressed it as;

“Trump has been compared to a loose canon on deck, but that’s not true. That canon can be roped, put back in place and put back to good use. Trump is throwing all the rope overboard and is determined to damage the ship till it sinks.”

“Trump has been compared to a petulant, spoiled two year old, throwing a tantrum in the candy isle at the grocery store. That’s not true either. That two year old will grow up. Trump missed his opportunity to grow up. His deeply flawed, horse dung character is self reinforcing and will continue to deteriorate rapidly. His behavior is characterized by viciously lashing out in evil attempts to punish any adult minds that attempt to impose reasonability, civility or greed limits.

Many, MANY, “yanks” are wrestling to the limits of our capability to eliminate this blight on humanity which, by lies and devious means, has stolen the government of the US and turned it into an organized crime gang.

Wish us luck.

Not that it matters much but the Global Phoenixes are not American assets. They are part of NATO's Alliance Ground Surveillance Force and operate independently of US intelligence gathering. Many people also assume the AWACS patrolling along Ukraine's western border are American, but they too are NATO operated aircraft and the intel they generate is not American owned. I can't help suspecting that the SACEUR, Christopher Cavoli, knows his days are numbered and is doing as much as he can to help Ukraine before Trump replaces him with someone more compliant.

Thank you so much for all your reports. Especially the parts with the view from the front on how to win. This is needed these days when everybody claims Russia will win. Regarding the peace process you wrote: «In other words, the big sanctions news was at the beginning of the week we didn’t know how the Trump administration would react after the Putin regime spat on the peace process, and now we know The Trump administration is OK with being spat on by Russia..» We knew that already didn’t we? Everybody knows it, everybody sees it but no 47. Oh well.

I feel that this week was slightly less encouraging than recent articles. Nice that Ukraine got all those deep hits on Russia, but not nice that the scumbags caused so much damage in Ukraine. Nice that the drone battalions are so good but not nice that we're not quite sure where those 15%'s a month are going to come from. But I remain convinced that western support will get Ukraine what it needs and Ukraine will do what it needs to do with it.
